"Pay It Forward" Lent Project

During Lent, our "Discipleship Academy" (Confirmation) Class will be helping run the midweek Lent dinners & services on Wednesday evenings.

During these evenings, the Discipleship Academy Small Groups will be presenting the results of their $100 "Pay It Forward" projects. In those projects, each small group was given $100 and instructed to find creative ways to use that money to be a blessing to others. Now, the students will become the teachers as they inspire the congregation to see themselves as blessed to be a blessing.

We do this project because we believe that God's blessings are always meant for a purpose. In the Old Testament, God promises to bless Abraham so that he might be a blessing to others, and so that in him, "all the families of the earth shall be blessed" (Genesis 12:2-3). The history of the Jewish people and the early Christian Church is then the story of how those promised blessings truly did reach all the families of the earth.

This year, each Discipleship Academy small group will be assigned to one of the 5 weeks of Lent, during which their group will have primary responsibility. However, all students are expected to attend all five weeks, to support their fellow students, and to hear the inspring stories of how each group used their $100 to be a blessing to as many people as possible.

Below, you will find downloadable copies of the resources needed, along with a description of the roles the students will have.
